Welcome to the Ruckus Roots movement! Print E-mail
Written by Christine Spehar

RuckusRoots is part of the “art as resistance” movement – a grassroots effort to engage young people in democracy and the environment.  We will provide a nexus for young people to connect, learn, act and, hopefully, draw new inspiration from the experience.

The goal of RuckusRoots is twofold:

  1. To inspire young people to get involved in the American political system by providing a place for them to learn about issues and register to vote, and…

  2. To encourage them to vote in environmentally friendly ways once they're registered.

We believe these two issues—protecting our personal liberties, which are being dismantled, and protecting the health of the environment, which is dangerously close to disintegrating beyond repair—are the most pressing concerns of our generation. As humans, we’re nothing without our planet. And as Americans, we can DO nothing to protect our planet without engaging in a healthy democratic system. The two issues go hand in hand and we intend to CAUSE A RUCKUS until America’s youth understands the urgency of the situation, stands up and demands to be heard. With the November 2008 elections looming, NOW is the time to spread the word.

RuckusRoots will be touring the US this summer and fall prior to the 2008 elections with the help of partners like Global Inheritance, the Energy Action Coalition and Green Spirit Productions. We’ll be spreading the word, rockin’ the vote and saving the planet one campus, concert and festival freak at a time.

We need your help! To learn more about our plan of attack, get involved or to donate, go to www.ruckusroots.org or myspace.com/ruckusroots.

Our deepest heartfelt gratitude goes out to all who’ve helped or who will help along the way.
